Bob's Stores to Close All Locations by July 14th
The owners of Bob's Stores, a popular apparel and footwear chain, announced on Monday that they plan to close all locations by July 14th. The closures will affect all stores in the chain, including locations in Cranston and Attleboro.
The company cited financial difficulties as the reason for the closures. Despite efforts to restructure the company, Bob's Stores was unable to secure the financing needed to continue operations. Going-out-of-business sales have already begun.
Customers Express Sadness at Store Closings
Customers who spoke to NBC 10 News expressed their disappointment at the news of the store closings. Many recalled fond memories of shopping at Bob's Stores over the years.
"This is where my parents used to take me when I was a kid," said James Mullen, a Bob's Stores shopper. "We always came in and got shoes for school, so I remember Bob's pretty fondly for that. You got places like Kohl's and stuff, but it's not a great selection, so a local store like this is going to be missed."
Bob's Stores has been a fixture in local communities for nearly 70 years. The company's president, Dave Barton, expressed regret over the need to close the stores.
"We regret that our financial position necessitated the liquidation of Bob's Stores," Barton said. "Bob's has been a stalwart of our local communities for nearly 70 years, and we know our customers remember us as having been there for major moments in their lives. We remain grateful to our vendors, suppliers, customers and employees for all of their support over the years."
Gift Cards and Merchandise Credits to Be Honored
The company said gift cards and merchandise credits will be honored through the close of business on July 14th. Customers are encouraged to use their gift cards and credits before the store closures take effect.
The closures of Bob's Stores will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the communities where the stores are located. The loss of local jobs and the closure of a familiar retail destination will be felt by many.
